FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Blogging

What is a “Blog”?

“Blog” is an abbreviated version of “weblog,” which is a term used to describe web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog is a frequently updated, personal website featuring diary-type commentary and links to articles on other Web sites. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects.

With this feature, no longer is our website solely under the hands of the webmaster. Now, you too can directly add content to our website, making it much more dynamic and interactive than ever before.

What stuff can i post here?

Aside from the usual articles, journals and comments, you could also upload files such as photos, pdf documents, mp3s, video files and almost any other type of file (see How to Blog). You also have access to rich text formatting (eg: bold, italics, underscore) and you could include graphical emoticons (such as :) ) and active links such as this: http://www.lsqc82.org/.

How do I post something?

Refer to the How to Blog Section.

If anybody can post here, isn’t it subject to abuse?

Yes, that’s why we have moderators. They will see to it that our website will not contain any offensive, inappropriate, illegal or unsolicited materials such as spam, porn (awww!!), copyrighted materials, etc. For control purposes, the moderators reserve the right to edit or delete postings which we deem may be inappropriate for our website.

What if I make a mistake in posting?

You can go back to your posted messages anytime to edit or even delete it. Optionally, you can also ask any of the moderators to do it for you.

It says that in order to post, I have to be logged in. How do I do that?

From the Home page (see top banner), you’ll see a “Meta” section along the sidebar. Go to Register if you’re a first time user and Login if you already have an account.

What is the “Go” button for?

That activates a powerful search feature which enables you to look for specific keywords in all of the postings. You can use this, say, if you want to look for all occurences of the word “homecoming”.

When I logged in, I was brought into a different webpage with a lot of complicated options. How do I go back to the blog page?

Once you log in, it automatically brings you to composition mode, where you can post a new article or question, reply to an existing posting, or even upload files (more on this in How to Blog). But if you’re overwhelmed by the many options, just click on View site on the top section of the page, proceed to the message you want to reply to, then click on Add comment.

I can’t memorize the password given to me. Can I change it?

Yes, but first you’ll still need your original password in order to log in for the first time. Click on Profile on the top menu and it will take you to a page where you can update your personal profile and change your password.

How do I go back to the LSQC Batch ‘82 main page?

Go to the Home page. On the sidebar, click on Exit under Meta. To go back here, click on Forum, then Blog.

Well, that’s it. If you have any additional questions, just email me.
